RAMADA MANILA CENTRAL

May 20, 2014

Food and travel are two things in my life that I am passionate about.  These are blessings that I truly cherish.  I work hard to experience these --- tasting good food, checking out nice & affordable hotels, discovering places.  Siem Reap in Cambodia was my choice of destination this May.  However, we were not able to purchase cheap airfare tickets.  Our available dates were also limited.  But we need a vacation!  I need to experience something that will somehow take my mind off my business and paper works.  When I saw a seemingly affordable hotel rate in www.booking.com, I became interested!  How about an overnight stay in a hotel plus food trip?

Last May 16-18, 2014, my friend and I decided to stay in Ramada Manila Central in order to experience longer days of Chinese food trip.  I knew that one day will not be enough to explore Binondo and do some shopping in Divisoria.  I was able to book two nights stay with www.booking.com for only Php5,120++.  We paid Php6,070 (supposedly only Php6,067. 20 but they do not have coins anymore according to the front desk officer) as we checked-out.

We were asked to pay a refundable Php2,000 per night deposit fee (total of Php4,000) aside from the room accommodation.  Complimentary drinks were also served.  They were refreshing and light!

Our room was a Deluxe King (I inquired since the one stated in our booking.com reservation was Superior Double or Twin Room).  It was not carpeted as in most hotel rooms but I still like it.

I was hoping that the bathroom is nice!  Let's just say that I was delighted to see that the bathroom was spacious and clean! :)

We were also provided with a map around the area.  I find this cool!  It was like they knew we were there for a food trip!  Mag-aala-Dora na si Fae! :)  Hahaha!

Breakfast for two was also inclusive already.  I love their mantou dipped in condensed milk!  Too bad that they didn't serve it in our second day breakfast :(  I was really disappointed!

There's also a (very limited) scheduled shuttle service (free!) to and from SM Mall of Asia and Lucky Chinatown Mall.  168 Mall and Tabora Street are just behind Lucky Chinatown Mall.  Despite the heat of the sun, we opted to walk back to the hotel since there was no shuttle service scheduled during that time (and we were too frugal to pay Php60-70 for a tricycle).  It was not that far, we thought! :)

There's an on-going Halo-halo buffet for only Php149 in the hotel's cafe (lobby floor).

Aside from great food finds, we were also captivated with the Binondo Church and other buildings in the area.

Thank you Ramada Manila Central for providing us a fun weekend!  We hope to be back soon! <3

A Very Helpful Research of a Fellow Baker

Dear sweetdreams,

Ms. Eva Smoot has provided us with very helpful information that will enlighten us more about the the difference between parchment and wax paper. I will research more about the different baking papers available in the Philippine market and will surely share whatever I will be able to learn :)

I am encouraging our fellow bakers to please share your good and bad experiences about certain baking papers available so that we may be able to recognize which ones are great for baking!

******
Parchment paper is a silicone-treated paper. It is the same as greaseproof paper and cooking paper (Glad Bake paper).

Baking and cooking uses:
- oven safe to 400 degrees F
- line cookie sheets for baking cookies: I don’t need to grease the baking sheet and the cookies will bake evenly and will not stick on the baking sheet or cookie sheet
- reusable for easy cookie baking

For microwave use:
- it can be used as a splatter cover to keep microwave clean
- line cake, bread and roasting pans
- can be folded to make pouches to steam fish and vegetables
- roll out cookie dough and pie crusts between two sheets of parchment paper
- line countertops when measuring and mixing ingredients
- use when breading chicken, fish and meats
- use it for wrapping sandwiches
- icing/pastry bags

CAUTION: Keep parchment from touching open flame.

Wax paper is a kind of paper that is coated with wax. It should never be exposed to direct heat because wax paper is flammable.

Baking and cooking uses:
For oven use: Line bottom of cake pans. The batter will completely cover the surface of the wax paper lining and cake or bread will not stick to the pan in the lined area. (Do not use wax paper to line cookie sheet to bake cookies.)

For microwave use: it can be used as a splatter cover to keep microwave clean
- roll out cookie dough and pie crusts between two sheets of wax paper
- line countertops when measuring and mixing ingredients
- use when breading chicken, fihs and meats
- use it for wrapping sandwiches

I use Wilton Parchment Paper, 15-inch width and the other one is 12-inch width. I haven’t seen the Glad Bake Paper here in San Diego, CA. Glad Bake Paper is available in Australia.
I use Silpat silicone baking sheet/liner and Matfer Exopat baking sheet for baking cookies.

We're open to serve you!

Ingrid's Sweet Haven (ISH) Patisserie & Baking Supplies is.. yes, named after me, Ingrid Alren V. Mediarito.

I'm not so much into computers.. all I know is to browse the internet (to check my e-mails and view websites of companies I need to know more, and research) and type documents. This will be my first attempt to really make a blog!

Please bear with me! I'm still experimenting on how I will "speak" in this blog. All I know is that I'm making this blog as an extension of ISH... so that we can reach to more people and show what our products are. I will discuss about different baking ingredients and materials as well! I wish that this will be a venue wherein I'll learn more about baking ingredients and procedures... and that you will learn something from me as well!

You may suggest any topic that you want to discuss. Let me know! Let us share what we all know in the world of baking! Ohhh! I'm getting excited about this blog! Please help me "build" this blog. Any question, suggestion, and knowledge will surely contribute a lot!
